BitPay, a cryptocurrency payment provider, declared that it had obtained a license from the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets, enabling it to conduct business under the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework in member states of the European Union.
BitPay announced on Thursday that the Dutch financial authorities’ acceptance of the firm as a crypto-asset service provider (CASP) will enable it to expand its services in the region, including stablecoin and cryptocurrency payments. Following a July 1 mandate that all organizations providing crypto-related services be subject to regulation, the company was among the most recent to receive a license under MiCA.
“Europe is one of the most crucial locations for the future of payments,” stated Jonathan Arler, the European CEO of BitPay.
Some of the largest exchanges, including Binance, gave up on their early attempts to obtain certifications under MiCA before the July 1 deadline, despite the fact that numerous cryptocurrency companies had been trying to do so. Last week, Ripple declared that it had obtained a CASP license from the financial authority of Luxembourg.
